We are very sad to report the death in April of David Wheeler who was a friend and trustee from 2000 until the end of 2003. His role in the development and growing success of the Trust has been invaluable and one for which we are deeply grateful.
Current programme of support
2003-2004 (Total £38,000 awarded to the Arts)
- Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) (£5,000 student bursary shared between Ruth Everett, Rob Hastie and Catherine Murray)
- Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (£5,000 student scholarship to Alan Morrissey)
- Chichester Festival Theatre (£5,000 to work of Associate Festival Dramaturg, Ed Kemp for production of Nathan the Wise)
- Wimbledon School of Art (£5,000 student bursary to Nathan Jones)
- Exeter College of Arts and Design (£3,000 student bursary)
- Falmouth College of Arts (£3,000 grant for student study visits around UK)
- National Print Exhibition 2003 (£500 awards to Janet Lueck and Yoko Omomi, outstanding printmakers)
- London Institute Drama Society (£2,000 grant for Edinburgh Fringe festival production)
- Dance Umbrella (Grant of £3,000 to support Merce Cunningham Dance Company residency at The Place)
- Royal Academy of Music (£6,000 in two grants for production of Haydn's Il Mondo della Luna and Wolf-Ferrari's School for Fathers)
So far our plans for the financial year 2004-5 include continuing support for:
- Chichester Festival Theatre
- Wimbledon School of Art
- Falmouth College of Arts
- Federation of British Artists' National Print Exhibition
- Royal Academy of Music
- The Guildhall School Trust
- Dance Umbrella
and new support has been agreed for:
- London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA)
- International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove student bursary
- James Menzies-Kitchin memorial trust
- The New Profesionals
Future developments
We aim to help art, theatre and music schools in London and the regions with grants, awards and scholarships in keeping with Shu-Yao Fenton's wishes. We would welcome any donations to assist the achievement of the Trust's objectives.
